May 2015 saw a lot of scholar activity around Itchiku Kubota’s kimono.

Accompanying the current exhibitions in the Netherlands and France, three events were organised throughout Europe :

– on May 15th, the Japan Foundation, London, organised a conference by Dr. Jacqueline M. Atkins on Itchiku Tsujigahana.

– two days later, on May 17th, Dr. Atkins and her colleague Dale C. Gluckman shared the Dutch stage during the International Textile Conference Leiden, and offered new perspectives on the artist’s works.

– and closing the program, on May 21, the two experts of Itchiku Kubota were also participating in a special study day around Theatre in Asia organised by the Musée Guimet, where 14 kimono are exhibited until this Fall.

These conferences were all very well attended by a rich mix of interested individuals, lovers of Japanese culture and arts professionals.
