Ohn/Fuji Glittering in Gold

Here we can revel in Mount Fuji standing tall in the full golden glow of the rising sun. A sea of clouds at the mountain’s base reflects the shining morning light. You can easily see the tiny, delicate stitches of embroidery that outline the ridges of Fuji’s snowy cone, giving it extra emphasis against the luminous sky. A myriad of ink-drawn floral motifs fill the snowy peak and serve to remind us of the design’s tsujigahana origins. Ohn/Fuji Glittering in Gold was worn by Akihiro Nakazawa, the well-known actor, in a 1999 Maimu production. Extra rolls of satin fabric were added to the hem to allow for the kimono to trail slowly across the stage.
