Ou/ In The Light of the Setting Sun

The setting sun, edged with carefully placed gold embroidery stitches, captures our attention as it falls slowly toward horizon in this vibrant design. The white shaped-resist areas, occasionally enhanced with gold-touched embroidery, accentuate the shimmering reflections of the sun’s descent.

Some of these resist shapes are all but hidden beneath densely stitched embroidery done with threads of gold, bronze, or silver. Couched outlines follow the shapes and are also fashioned from metallic thread. Kubota never forgot the spectacular sunsets he saw while he was interned in a prisoner-of-war camp in Siberia. Ou/ In The Light of the Setting Sun is a stunning example of the inspiration those sunsets brought to his work.
