Baku / The Spring Thaw Begins
The Seasons section of Symphony of Light comes to a close as the snows of winter start to melt and life and movement return to the frozen landscape. The melting snow creates raging torrents of water that overflow their boundaries, raising plumes of mist and spray as the water cascades over the cliffs to the gentler valley below. Spring has arrived in the rugged mountains of Kubota’s imaginary landscape. Like its predecessor kimono, the design for Baku/ The Thaw Begins is expressed almost in its entirety as an ink painting rather than as tie-dye and stitch resist, but one that reflects a contemporary approach rather than a nostalgic look at the literati art of the past.
