Shi/Silver Purity

'Shi/ Silver Purity' shows an austere winter landscape veiled by persistent snow and steeped in a wintery stillness. The pure white of winter predominates, but this design provides us with an excellent reminder that white is not a constant but rather a continually changing spectrum of hues that can vary according to environment, location, perspective, and the refraction of light. Here, the use of different stitch-resist and tie-dye techniques affects the softness or harshness of how the colour is perceived. When brilliant white embroidery thread is used to highlight the swirls of snow kicked into the air by skittish breezes, the colour picks up ambient light and changes yet again.
