Yuu / Spring Air Approaching Snowy Mountains
There is great fantasy and great beauty in 'Yuu/ Spring Air Approaching the Snowy Mountains', a very painterly kimono that brings to the fore a masterly exhibition of ink drawing and painting. The prominent rocky cliffs rising from the mists are drawn very much in the classical tradition of Chinese landscape art, yet they offer an unexpected display of sophistication. In the foreground, trees ready to shed their winter snow, are portrayed in their own perspective, barely acknowledging the mountains with which they are paired. The richly hued blue mists rising around the craggy cliffs are almost disconcerting in their colourful display after the long, white winter.
