Itchiku Kubota’s masterpiece Featured in the Touring Exhibition ‘Kimono: Garment, Canvas, and Artistic Muse’
We are pleased to announce the launch of the touring exhibition ‘Kimono: Garment, Canvas, and Artistic Muse,’ which explores the cultural, historical, and artistic significance of traditional Japanese textile art. This remarkable exhibition will travel to major cities across the United States over the next four years.
Curated by Meher McArthur, a distinguished Asian art historian specializing in Japanese art, the exposition presents 46 works, including historical kimonos, contemporary pieces, and multimedia interpretations by ten international artists.
Itchiku Kubota is one of the exposition’s featured artists. His remarkable piece ‘Fuji and Woodland Covered in Fog,’ (1994), a stunning silk kimono depicting Mount Fuji, is one of the highlights of this year’s exhibition. It showcases the artist’s unique and intricate craftsmanship and breathtaking designs, elevating the kimono from traditional clothing to contemporary art.
Currently on display at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wisconsin, the exhibition will reopen on September 9 at the Fleming Museum of Art at the University of Vermont in Burlington.
