Appointment of Dale Carolyn Gluckman as New Curator

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dale Carolyn Gluckman as Lead Curator of the Kubota Collection.

Dale Carolyn Gluckman is an independent curator and museum consultant with a specific focus on Asian textiles and dress. She is the former Head of the Department of Costumes and Textiles at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), and a former senior consultant to the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles (QSMT) in Bangkok.

Ms Gluckman is a widely recognized lecturer and author, having written several books and articles on Japanese and Asian textiles. She was lead LACMA curator of the multiple award-winning exhibition When Art Became Fashion: Kosode in Edo-Period Japan. She also curated the Kimono as Art exhibitions in San Diego, California and Canton, Ohio and was the author of the highly acclaimed accompanying publication, Kimono as Art: The Landscapes of Itchiku Kubota.

With her extensive expertise in the field of Japanese and Asian textiles, Ms Gluckman takes the position following the retirement of the esteemed Jacqueline Marx Atkins, Ph.D., a textile historian who has been curating the Kubota Collection for more than a decade.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Jacqueline Atkins for her long-standing dedication to the art of Itchiku Kubota. Her passion and expertise significantly contributed to the worldwide success of the Kubota Collection. Thousands of art admirers in Europe and North America will forever remember the numerous wonderful exhibitions she helped put together. Her impact on the Collection has been profound, as is our admiration and appreciation.
